(Atlanta, Ga. – July 1, 2020) – FisherBroyles LLP, the first and largest distributed law firm in the world, is pleased to announce that Cynthia L. Counts has joined the firm in Atlanta, from Duane Morris LLP, where she was a partner.

Cynthia joins the Firm as it continues to increase headcount in both the U.S. and U.K. and explores further expansion into the Middle East and Asia.

A seasoned litigator, Cynthia has built a national practice that includes television stations and broadcast networks, entertainment production companies, newspapers, authors, artists, and web publishers.

She also has a history of success defending individuals on free speech matters:  from individuals speaking out about assisted suicide in a state that tried to prohibit such speech to those wrongfully arrested for criticizing law enforcement.

Cynthia has deep experience as a trial and appellate lawyer, including criminal and domestic cases. But she is perhaps best known for her aggressive motion practice in media law, often avoiding trials and winning cases outright in the early stages of litigation before expensive discovery becomes necessary. To that end, she has been at the forefront, in Georgia and nationally, in the use of anti-SLAPP statutes as an early mechanism for the dismissal of harassing libel litigation. She was part of a team that succeeded in strengthening anti-SLAPP law in Georgia.

Cynthia is a sought-after commentator and writer on libel, privacy, Internet, the First Amendment, and open government law. She is ranked as one of Georgia’s Super Lawyers, is AV® Preeminent Peer Review rated by Martindale-Hubbell and was listed in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business.

Joel M. Ferdinand, Managing Partner, Litigation and Global General Counsel, said:

“We are very excited to welcome Cynthia to our team. She is a seasoned litigator, highly regarded in media law and will be a great addition to our media and communications practice group.  Our unique business model allows lawyers at the top of their game to perform profitably from anywhere, anytime, with more flexibility and control to add value to clients.”

Cynthia noted the Firm’s simplified business model and flexibility is a particular plus for her practice and will be more effective and cost-efficient for her clients, commenting:

“I am thrilled to join the excellent lawyers at FisherBroyles. They have a business model designed for the 21st century.”

Cynthia serves on the governing board of the ABA Forum on Communications Law; the board of the Georgia First Amendment Foundation; the planning committee for the annual Georgia Bar Media & Judicial Conference; and is co-chair of the Media Law Resource Center’s Newsgathering Committee and annual Conference Planning Committee. Starting in 2012, she also began teaching journalism students at Emory University and later became an adjunct professor at the law school, teaching a course in media communications.
