The new year has ushered in some big HR compliance news and reporters wasted no time turning to Eric for comment. Last week, SHRM’s Roy Maurer quoted Eric in his article entitled “U-Haul Says Nicotine Users Need Not Apply.” Mr. Maurer addresses U-Haul’s New Year’s resolution to help its workers improve their health by screening out job applicants who smoke, vape or chew tobacco. A few days later, HR Dive’s Ryan Golden explored the results of a recent poll that Eric conducted on his blog, The Employer Handbook, about how employers prepared for the new U.S. Department of Labor overtime rules.
