Partner Spotlight – Robert Boresta

How long have you practiced law and what is your practice area?

I have been practicing law since 1984. I see myself as a practical securities regulatory attorney. I counsel participants in global financial markets on complex securities laws and regulations.

Who is your typical client?

For the most part, my clients are established, financial institutions and established players in the private equity and fund space. This includes banks, brokers and investment managers, but also companies issuing securities and those seeking to raise additional capital.

How would you describe the practice areas at FisherBroyles?

At FisherBroyles, a lot of what I do is independent work, but when I have worked with other Partners – namely, in the Fund and Litigation groups – I have always been struck by the Firm’s collaborative spirit and culture. There is never a problem finding a highly qualified Partner willing to provide advice or step up and support on client matters or a business pitch. It is great to be able to draw on the Firm’s resources in terms of collective expertise and experience.

How is it different from previous law firms you have worked at?

The main difference is that FisherBroyles has fostered a less regimented and more flexible environment in terms of what the individual Partners can do.  At many law firms, attorneys are restricted to a fixed billing rate and have no flexibility in fee arrangements. However, at FisherBroyles, there is that flexibility and creativity in terms of structuring fee arrangements. This is a huge benefit when it comes to competing for and securing new business.

Have you been able to grow/build your personal practice since joining the Firm? If so, how and has the Firm’s model enabled that?

I have been able to grow my personal practice considerably since joining the Firm in March 2019. It has been a function of the Firm providing the flexibility around fee arrangements but also the fact that prospective clients/business can look at me knowing I will deliver the same quality of service as a top-tier AmLaw firm but not at the fees associated with those firms. The Firm’s model has provided me with an opportunity to gain business and clients from top law firms and enabled us as a Firm to compete more effectively without the overheads of many law firms.
