(Los Angeles, California – September 1, 2021) – FisherBroyles, LLP is pleased to announce that Larry R. Schmadeka has joined the Firm’s Los Angeles office.
For the last 18+ years, Larry has been a partner at an international boutique firm with one of the largest Korea based practices in the United States. Prior to that, he worked as a senior associate at Steptoe & Johnson LLP and Lewis, Brisbois, Bisgaard & Smith LLP.
Larry brings broad experience in commercial, intellectual property, product liability and employment litigation on behalf of Asian-based conglomerates and foreign based individuals. Such experience includes serving as national products liability counsel for a Korean automobile manufacturer, representing Korean electronics companies in intellectual property litigation, representing Chinese state-owned enterprises in commercial disputes, and Asian-American community-based institutions in California employment litigation – wrongful termination, race and gender discrimination, wage and hour, PAGA and class actions.
Larry’s commercial litigation experience includes breach of contract, shareholder disputes, and business torts, including Section 17200 unfair business practice claims, false advertising, and misappropriation of trade secrets.
Larry’s international experience includes the majority of a three-year period in Asia for a Korean shipbuilder managing international arbitration matters; international contract compliance regarding shipbuilding projects and operations, contract drafting and reformation; and defending ancillary United States litigation relating to foreign arbitral proceedings.
Working with franchise specialists, Larry has also assisted Taiwan based franchisors establish operations in the United States. He has also worked with start-up skin care, beauty, nutraceutical, and medical equipment companies regarding strategic market entry matters in United States and abroad, counseling them on intellectual property, employment law, social media advertising, product labeling and advertising, warranties, production agreements, and regulatory compliance matters.
Larry received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Southwestern University School of Law, and his B.A. from Claremont McKenna College. Larry also serves as Vice-Chair of the Board of Governors for the Keck Center for International and Strategic Studies at Claremont McKenna College.
