Partner Spotlight – Ali Warr

How long have you practiced law and what is your practice area?

I have been practicing law for over 30 years. My practice focuses on intellectual property. I also practice patent and trademark prosecution along with more generalized counselling regarding IP strategy. However, the majority of my practice involves intellectual property dispute resolution. Over the years, I have represented clients in trade secrets misappropriation, patent infringement, trademark infringement, and copyright disputes. These disputes are either in arbitration, federal court, or before the USPTO. My practice has also involved antitrust claims that may arise in the context of an IP dispute.

Who is your typical client?

My typical client is a small to mid-sized privately owned company. I have also represented publicly traded companies, both foreign and domestic. I have developed somewhat of a niche practice representing aircraft engine manufacturers in disputes involving IP and their broader business practices.

How would you describe the Litigation and IP practice areas at FisherBroyles?

The Litigation and IP practice groups at FisherBroyles are exemplary. We have extremely talented partners with wide-ranging experiences covering many market segments and industries. Every partner is willing to assist when their skill sets are needed. We have a widespread geographic presence that is indispensable when providing clients with legal representation throughout the U.S. I have greatly enjoyed working with a diverse group of partners on different matters throughout the U.S. I learn something new from every experience, and I hope that I am able to share my experiences with my partners.

How is it different from previous law firms at which you have worked?

In a word, liberating. What I mean by that is that Kevin Broyles and James Fisher have developed a business model in which our partners have the freedom to develop their practices and service their clients in the manner in which they deem appropriate. We do not have internal groups playing tug-of-war with one another. My clients like the fact that we can move with agility, with the right partners involved to solve their problems as efficiently as possible.

Have you been able to grow/build your personal practice since joining the Firm? If so, how and has the Firm’s model enabled that?

Yes, and this follows from the prior question. We have the infrastructure in place to clear conflicts quickly and to provide our clients immediate assistance. Having carte blanche to design an engagement model that satisfies the client has proved very beneficial. My clients have expressed that they like the fact that they are not paying to train young associates and that we can put partners with the requisite skill set in charge of any given matter.
