| How long have you practiced law and what is your practice area?
I have been practicing law for 30 years, primarily in litigation and transactions related to IP and technology, with considerable experience in patent litigation. Who is your typical client? I typically represent companies, from small private entities to large public companies. How would you describe the IP and Technology practice area at FisherBroyles? FisherBroyles has a deep, robust practice related to IP and technology, with at least a third of its lawyers practicing in that space. It has helped me staff matters with excellent lawyers, and technical specialists, and I have also worked with several other partners in supporting their practice. How is it different from previous law firms you have worked at? FisherBroyles has the special sauce that gets lawyers working together and cross-selling in a very effective manner. I’ve worked at firms from mid-size to mega, and none have been as successful as FisherBroyles in creating and maintaining an environment where lawyers are constantly supporting each other on other matters across the Firm. Have you been able to grow/build your personal practice since joining the Firm? If so, how and has the Firm’s model enabled that? In my first full year at FisherBroyles, I more than doubled my income, when compared to my highest compensation year in the past 30 years. The Firm’s model is very efficient. I do not have to waste time attending unnecessary meetings or serving on various committees to make certain that the Firm “feels” that I am committed. If you like to practice law, then FisherBroyles compensates you for doing so in a very transparent and timely manner. When the Firm is paid on an invoice for one of my clients, I receive my compensation from that invoice within two weeks. There is no worrying about whether some remote compensation or executive committee is going to remember or recognize what I contributed a year later when my compensation is reviewed and determined along with all the other lawyers in the Firm, and previously in a manner with little transparency.
