Partner Spotlight – Lisa Powell

How long have you practiced law and what is your practice area?

I have practiced law for 38 years. My primary focus areas are commercial litigation, creditor’s rights, business bankruptcy, and arbitration. I am proud member of the American Arbitration Association’s Commercial Panel.

Who is your typical client?

My clients are typically creditors, lenders, mid- to small-sized companies, and franchisors.

As a trial lawyer, I represent clients in disputes in all types of settings: state and federal courts, bankruptcy courts, and arbitral tribunals, both domestic and international.

How would you describe the Litigation practice area at FisherBroyles?

The Litigation Practice at FisherBroyles is extremely robust and diverse. I love being a part of it.

How is it different from previous law firms at which you have worked?

FisherBroyles is different in that the Firm is far more diverse – both in terms of subject matters and geographic location. There are also more attorneys at FisherBroyles who are expert practitioners in specific areas, as opposed to my previous law firms where litigators’ remits were more spread out. This diversity and scope give the Firm a unique feeling and competitive differentiator.

Have you been able to grow/build your personal practice since joining the Firm? If so, how and has the Firm’s model enabled that?

Yes. The flexibility I have in controlling my rates has allowed me to grow my practice. Additionally, the Firm has a very transparent compensation system which makes collaboration seamless, easy and enjoyable. There are no hidden agendas.
