Partner Spotlight – Sanford Posner

How long have you practiced law and what is your practice area?

I have been practicing law since 1998. I have always focused on immigration and nationality law. While at Georgia State Law School, I developed an interest in this area, and subsequently found a local practitioner who was in need of a law clerk. I have been practicing in immigration law ever since.

Who is your typical client?

My clients include Fortune 100 companies who have dynamic hiring needs, typically with multiple hires at one time, and that need non-immigrant visas and strategies for a pathway towards permanent residency, as well as smaller institutions who need support hiring foreign nationals.

Additionally, I work with individuals requiring advice and support in interacting with the immigration system. This could include persons getting married to a foreign national, or people with talents such as specialized engineers, internationally renowned dancers, musicians, and athletes.

My practice is hands-on and responsive to clients’ needs. I usually begin by explaining the immigration process, before drilling down into their specific backgrounds and experiences to find a pathway forward for their immigration goals.

How would you describe the Immigration practice area at FisherBroyles?

I’m leading the Immigration Practice at FisherBroyles, and the practice is in growth mode.  Looking ahead, we have a lot of potential to attract a strong bench of attorneys using the synergies of FisherBroyles’ network of talented lawyers. At an individual level, being able to rely on nearly 300 practitioners who are subject matter experts in their fields has greatly increased my ability to reach new, valuable clients, which I’m really enjoying.

Currently, I provide support to partners whose clients have immigration needs. My practice has also evolved with respect to the spectrum of clients who are seeking us out for their immigration needs.

How is it different from previous law firms you have worked at?

FisherBroyles has a larger platform and a greater depth of talent than the boutique labor & employment firms I had worked at earlier in my career. As a full-service law firm, it has given me credibility and backing when meeting with potential clients. The Firm’s reputation for innovative legal services, the name recognition it carries, and its network of partners all over the United States and around the world have opened doors for me to operate at a larger scale.

The Firm’s distributed model allows me to create my own schedule and have flexibility to spend time with my family, without feeling pressure to hit certain internal marks regarding my performance or having to constantly prove my worth as an asset to the Firm. Therefore, I can concentrate my energy on ensuring that my clients and partners have the necessary tools and means to address their immigration issues – a huge difference to traditional law firms and how they operate.

Have you been able to grow/build your personal practice since joining the Firm? If so, how and has the Firm’s model enabled that?

Since joining FisherBroyles, my client base has grown considerably. I benefit from the Firm’s quality reputation, which attracts new business, and the opportunity to ‘cross-market’ immigration services to the hundreds of attorneys and their clients across our myriad of practice groups.

Another aspect I enjoy is that I not only get to improve my personal practice but have a lot of freedom in building FisherBroyles’ immigration practice group. It is my personal ambition to put FisherBroyles on the map for immigration law!

To make that a reality, we are working to hire additional immigration lawyers – and I have no doubt there are many senior attorneys who will recognize the opportunity for their career, practice and earning potential that FisherBroyles offers.
