Partner Spotlight – Bryan D. Pollard

How long have you practiced law and what is your practice area?

I have practiced law for over 25 years, beginning with four years as a staff judge advocate and trial defense counsel in the U.S. Navy, Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps. Drawing on this early experience, my approach to litigation involves pinpointing the most rapid route to victory, defeating opponents with unique and alternative tactics.

My practice focuses on general civil litigation, including personal injury defense litigation, business and commercial litigation, and intellectual property litigation, amongst others.

Given my expertise, I serve as co-chair of the Firm’s Products Liability Litigation and Counseling Practice Group.

Who is your typical client?

I represent a wide range of companies including transportation network, trucking, and gig economy companies.  Over time, transportation network and gig economy companies have become an increasingly important component of my practice.

How would you describe the Products Liability Litigation & Counseling practice area at FisherBroyles?

I am very proud of the practice. We have an experienced and diversified team which helps to both retain clients and win new business. I value that FisherBroyles’ model means that all of my colleagues are experienced and very knowledgeable, which is a significant change from the traditional law firm approach.

How is it different from previous law firms you have worked at?

The flexibility provided by FisherBroyles’ model has been a real differentiator. At my previous law firm I was spending close to two hours commuting per day, but the Firm’s distributed model means I spend more time with my family, enjoy a better work-life balance and don’t have to follow the rigid constructs often found at traditional law firms. I have not looked back since joining.

The approach to compensation also stands out. I feel it’s fairer to partners and to our clients, due to our reduced capital expenses.  It was something totally different to what the legal industry had seen before, and it allows us to serve clients more efficiently, benefit from a flexible schedule, and make our own hours.

Have you been able to grow/build your personal practice since joining the Firm? If so, how and has the Firm’s model enabled that?

When I joined FisherBroyles, I saw my total compensation almost double because of the way the Firm’s compensation model operates.

Since then, I have developed a healthy book of business, supported by the strong team around me which I have been able to build over time. The expertise of the practice means we can be rapidly responsive, creative, and thorough, strengths that our clients routinely commend us for.

Joining the Firm has been a life transforming experience to date, and its why I am always encouraging colleagues in the legal industry to join as new Partners.
