Richard is a registered patent attorney with years of experience supporting clients in intellectual property matters including patent preparation and prosecution, trademark prosecution, patent portfolio management, product legal and licensing support, open source legal compliance, and support for standard-setting organization legal issues.
While he has legal experience with many technology areas, prior to law school, Richard was a software developer for three years. He helped to design and develop both web-based and on-premise applications, giving him insight and appreciation for software and computer-related technologies. He has worked with clients in various technologies including cybersecurity, backup and availability, virtual machines, IoT, IIoT, networking, mobile devices, and analytics.
Before joining FisherBroyles, Richard worked for two high-tech Fortune 500 corporations, managing patent portfolios in multiple technology areas and providing intellectual property legal support to product teams.
Richard was recognized as Utah Legal Elite in 2019 and 2020 by Utah Business magazine.
