Matt is a seasoned commercial litigator, specializing in defending corporations facing high-stakes litigation. One notable achievement includes securing a summary judgment of non-infringement in a patent-infringement case for a Fortune 500 life sciences firm.

Matt is an accomplished appellate advocate. In 2022, Matt obtained reversals in the Federal Circuit for three different clients, including a precedential decision interpreting means-plus-function claims and a precedential decision regarding patent eligibility. Matt accepts criminal defense appointments from the Seventh Circuit appeals court, showcasing his commitment to the rights of all defendants and a range of legal expertise beyond civil litigation.

Matt handles complex bankruptcy litigation. For example, Matt has represented corporate debtors in possession, including trials resulting in the disallowance of substantial creditors committee claims.

    • Matt was lead trial and appellate counsel in an important, precedential decision regarding “indefiniteness” under section 112 of the Patent Act. Nature Simulation v. Autodesk, 50 F.4th 1358 (Fed. Cir. 2022).
