Tom works with clients to strategically protect their intellectual property. His experience includes in-house and IP litigation roles that help him focus on cost-effective strategic approaches that support clients’ business goals. He represents large and small corporate clients, as well as technology transfer departments of universities. Tom has helped several clients advance from startup to exit. In each case, the client’s intellectual property portfolio was a key asset in providing a strategic niche leading to acquisition or investment and, in some cases, led to company profitability via licensing revenue.

His practice includes portfolio management, patent preparation and prosecution, licensing and other IP related agreements, due diligence related to client sales and acquisitions, assisting clients with managing IP litigation and other disputes, counseling clients regarding risks related to the introduction of new products including analyzing infringement and validity issues and preparing related opinions.
